Song, music, poetry and images combine in this lyrical and intimist tale exploring ageing, isolation, loss and love in an Australian rural setting. Following the premature death of his beautiful and loving Aboriginal wife Mary, Neville, a woodcutter, is paralysed by the pain of his loss. Since he is unable to properly care for his young son, Blake, the boy is placed in a boarding school. When, several years later, Blake returns as a young man to the homestead, in the middle of the forest, he is confronted with the mental and physical disintegration of his father. The son's efforts towards his dying father remain thwarted by the old man's wandering mind and eccentric ways.
