After a humiliating day at work, Tom White, a draughtsman in his fifties, has a breakdown. He drifts aimlessly around Melbourne, alone. He cannot face his wife or return to his seemingly perfect suburban life. Without a word to anyone, this ordinary man slips into the urban underclass, concentric worlds that will be dark and weird, thrilling and dangerous. He meets Matt, a gay hustler, Christine, an ex-junkie, Malcolm, a homeless man in love with poetry, and Jet, a young delinquent. Tom's disappearance will have shattering consequences for his family, while his own odyssey is a brutal, unsettling, yet sometimes beautiful journey into the human condition, and into his own troubled soul.
